The Gospel

You were made on purpose, by Someone who is good.

Before anything went wrong, there was a beginning that was right. God spoke, and there was light, and land, and living things — and He looked at all of it and called it good. Then He made people. Not by accident, not as an afterthought — on purpose, in His own image, to walk with Him.

That is the first true thing about you: you are not random. You were made by Someone, for Someone, and the ache you feel for meaning is not a malfunction. It is memory.

But something broke — and we all feel it.

The story does not stay in the garden. People chose their own way over God's, and something tore. Not just a rule broken — a relationship. Sin entered, and with it separation, and shame, and death. You don't need to be argued into this part. You already know it. The distance you feel from God, the weight you can't set down, the good you can't quite do — that's the break, and it runs through every one of us.

And the honest wage of it is death — separation from the God who is life. That is the bad news. But it is not the end of the news.

From the very first wound, God promised a rescuer.

Here is what most people miss: the moment it broke, God made a promise. In the same breath as the curse, He spoke of One who would come and crush the serpent's head. And from that promise forward, the whole of Scripture leans in one direction — toward a rescuer.

You can trace the thread. A lamb slain so a brother could be covered. A ram caught in a thicket. Blood on the doorposts. A spotless offering on the altar, again and again, every one of them a rehearsal — a shadow pointing forward to the one true sacrifice that hadn't come yet. The whole Old Testament is a held breath.

Then God kept His promise — Himself.

Jesus Christ — the Son of God — stepped into the story. He lived the life we could not live: sinless, in a world that hated Him for it. And then He did the thing the whole story was leaning toward. He was crucified. He took the wage that was ours. He was buried. And on the third day He rose — death could not hold the One who is life.

This is the center of everything. Not a good teacher's tragic end. A rescue. The debt you could never pay was paid, in full, by the only One who could pay it.

Abel's blood cried out from the ground for justice. Christ's blood speaks something better — it speaks mercy.

And now it is held out to you.

Here is the part that undoes people: there is nothing to earn. The whole point of the cross is that the price is already paid. You cannot add to it. You are not asked to clean yourself up first, to know enough, to have a past that qualifies. You are asked to believe — that His provision is enough, and to receive it.

That is not a formula. It is a promise. From God. To you. Right now.
